SHUKR Stores

Many customers ask whether SHUKR has any physical stores. The answer is: yes, and no. Yes, we do have stores in Syria and Jordan, but no, we don’t currently have any stores in England or North America, although hopefully that will change in the not-too-distant future. We thought a short post about our stores in Syria might give you a foresight about what we can hopefully see in the West one day. Also, if you ever make a trip to Syria or Jordan, then please pop in and pay us a visit.

Our main store in Syria is in the capital Damascus, in a historically conservative religious area called the Midan, just a few steps away from al-Hasan masjid.

We stock pretty much all the styles that you see on the website. The local taste is very similar to that of customers in the West, although Syrians are a lot more crazy about pants and not so keen on dresses.

One of the benefits of a physical store is that it enables us to display the clothing in color-coordinated sections, giving customers ideas about what outfits might look good matched together.

We also have a section of a new mall that has opened up in a countryside area of Damascus called Harasta.

Finally, our 3rd store is in the student area of Damascus called Rukn al-Din. This store is used mainly to stock slightly imperfect items which are sold for a discount. This was the first store we opened in Damascus and is well known amongst the foreign students here.

I remember I was shocked when I saw SHUKR in the fast “servis” on my visit to Syria. I visited both shops and got some bags, I’m still using them…

I want to visit Syria and Shukr again next year and wish to find much products for men in the shops :)

    Thank you Shukr!

Where can we find your stores in Jordan?

  4. Beth

I’m pleased to inform you that SHUKR will be opening up a store in the new Sweifiya Avenue Mall in Amman, which opens in late August 2009 inshaAllah. You may also be interested to know that we currently have a store in Kharabsheh, near Medina Riyadiyya, which sells a small selection of our clothing. The store is open on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays after Asr. For further details, and if you are in Jordan, you may wish to call 079-940-9406.

With regards to opening a retail outlet in the US, we don’t have any plans at present. The Muslim population in the States is really spread out and it is difficult to pinpoint one centralized location to open up a store in. We feel that it’s therefore much easier for the majority of our customers to continue shopping with us online.

Assalamualaikum. I love SHUKR clothings especially the dresses and the skirts. Why not open a store in Australia?

    Assalamu alaikum,
Great clothing and very good taste. One comment, however, about the pricing. I think your pricing is way too expensive… I don’t see myself or most Muslims paying $100 for a jubba or a galabiyya… come on, even Calvin Klein may not charge that much for their items (I know they don’t make Islamic clothing). I also don’t think people in Syria or Jordan would pay that much for such clothing items.

Anyway, with all respect to the quality, I think the pricing is still not right. Wallahy aalam.

As for stores being opened in the UK and Australia, we do not currently have any plans, but the future is always open.

In regard to our pricing, we are sympathetic to this point of view. However, SHUKR is an ethical producer of high quality, contemporary Islamic clothing; this naturally comes with a price. We have produced this short explanation in order to clarify what goes into producing high quality Islamic clothing.

    1) SHUKR is an ethical, fair-trade Islamic company. We are completely against sweatshop production and pay our workers above market wages that allow them to support their families in dignity and comfort. We also guarantee worker rights as laid out by Syrian and Jordanian law regarding working hours, overtime, holidays, and so forth. In addition, we strive to produce a religious work environment. Not only does the staff pray regularly but visitors to our factory and offices are often surprised at the pleasant environment they find.

    2) SHUKR produces original, innovative designs specifically made with the Western Muslim in mind. Designing and creating original patterns is not an easy or cheap process by any means. It requires a talented team of designers and pattern cutters. SHUKR has made it our mission to hire the best talent available for these jobs.

    3) SHUKR uses only the highest quality materials, mostly natural in origin, sourced from the top producers in Syria, as well as a limited range of Turkish and European producers. In addition, we undergo great effort to produce our garments according to the highest standards of sewing and production quality. We are always striving to improve our merchandise, while keeping costs as low as possible for you.

4)Finally, SHUKR’s Islamic designs require a great deal of fabric in their construction. Fabric is the major factor in the cost of a garment. Islamic clothing, especially for women, is full sleeved and dresses and skirts must always be full length. Our tops are also longer than typical mainstream designs. In addition, Islamic clothing is cut wider than normal designs to allow a more modest fit.

We do hope that this explains clearly why SHUKR clothing – although initially appearing costly – is, in fact, worth the prices that our customers pay.

    Dear Shukr,
have you any store in Istanbul or are you going to open one there? I am going to visit that town at the beginning of October and if there is a store of yours I would like to have the chance to see the items you produce.
I bought some skirts, trousers and tops via Internet and I can assure that they are of high quality and very confortable.
Who knows? Perhaps in the future there will be also a trip to Damascus and I can visit your stores personally.
Sorry for my english, I wrote from Italy.
    Best regards
    Cris

  12. Beth

    Dear Cris,

We do not have any immediate plans to open a store in Istanbul. I hope that one day you are able to make it to Damascus! Thanks so much for your interest!!

  13. UnitedStateGuy

if you guys open a store in the united states open one up in fremont or hayward area. mainly the bay area. im a businessman from the bay area and i can strongly say you will make more money and more profits here then all three of your current stores.

  14. umelbanat

I love your clothes. It’s like buying from Banana Republic ( muslim style).
I think you should open a store in New York. THere are alot of muslims here, and many other muslims from close states and city visit. They’re many sisters who complain that the muslims stores don’t have quality and nice stuff.

  15. Beth

    Salam Umelbanat,

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I will pass the suggestion on to our management, inshallah. We love feedback from our customers!! :)

    Assalamu Alaikum,

I was wondering how i could arrange a visit to where the clothes are made in Damascus.

    And,

What are the prices like in the Shukr shop in Damascus. Are they cheaper than the Shukr prices in England?

Also, i take a larger size in mens clothing and i prefer the colour as many do….black always sells out first. Would i be able to find more choice if i bough clothes from Shukr in Damascus?

    Wasalam,

    Asif

    Salaam Asif,

Let me ask the team, and I’ll get right back with you, inshallah.

    Salaam Asif,

We have two shops in Syria. We have a new retail shop in the Midan section of Damascus. It is located next to al Hasan Mosque. The phone number is 00 963 11 881 9085. It is open Saturday to Thursday, from 11 am to 9 pm. We also have an outlet in Rukn al Din where we sell discontinued and imperfect items at a discounted price.

    SHUKR
(shopping complex next to Abu Nur Institute)
    Rukn al-Din, Damascus
    Tel: 275 5103.

Regular prices in the shop are slightly cheaper than regular prices on the UK website. However, sale items in Syria may be different from sale items in the UK, meaning that sometimes one may find items in the UK to be cheaper than Syria, and vice versa.

Men’s clothing is very limited in the Damascus shop. Only a few styles are stocked, and only in a few colors.

    I hope this helps!

    Salams,

I live in Rukn Al Din, and have not come across your shop.

Please can you tell me exactly where the Shukr outlet is in Rukn Al Din.

Are you where the internet cafes are? Are you on the street leading upto souk Jummah. Or are you down the steps that are down the side of masjid abu nour?

Do you have a sign with your name?

    Salaams.

  20. Maryam

    salaams,

    Salam Sister Maryam,

I talked to management, and apparently we no longer have a shop in Rukn al-Din. Now, we only have the shop in Midan. So sorry about that! Please let me know if you need any more assistance!
